| Elevation facts: |
The highest point in Youngstown is at the intersection of McCartney and Coitsville Roads, 1,148.8 feet above sea level. The lowest point is on Edgewood Street, which runs along the Mahoning River, south of Wilson Ave. The exact spot is at the bridge that crosses Dry Run Creek, 834.33 feet above sea level. Oddly enough, the highest and lowest points are not too far apart. The steepest grade in Youngstown is on Powersdale Avenue, past Stop 5, a 22% grade. There will be plenty of arguments about this, as many people insist that the steepest grade is N. Phelps Street, from the railroad tracks to Wood St. (source: City Engineer, 1997) |
