A great resource for volunteer groups and beginner fundraisers, especially those without formal training. Includes information on what to do before a proposal is written. Each chapter contains a section,”When Things Go Wrong”, examples of situations that do not work right and how to deal with them. An enjoyable, easy to read book with many good suggestions for success.

Forces for Good: the six practices of high-impact nonprofits

The authors interviewed and conducted surveys of highly successful nonprofit organizations to determine what made them great. The organizations considered highly successful by the authors are: America's Second Harvest, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, City Year, Environmental Defense, The Expolaratorium, Habitat for Humanity International, the Heritage Foundation, National Council of La Raza, Self-Help, Share our Strength, Teach for America, and YouthBuild USA. They concluded that there were six practices that these nonprofits had in common. Shared, winning characteristics of these organizations are included and explored.
