“Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day!” - Try your hand at our Martin Luther King Jr. crossword puzzle. Highest score wins a prize. For grades 4-6. “Celebrity Pajama Jam: Sleepy-Time Fun for the Family” - Put on your PJs, bring out the whole family and listen to bedtime stories read by Mr. Masucci, principal of North Elementary School. “Celebrity Story Times with Mahoning Valley Phantoms Hockey Players” - Meet players from the Mahoning Valley Phantoms hockey team as they read stories to children of all ages. “Come and Join the Fun” - Stories and fun for ages 4-5. “Crafts to Go!” - Make-and-take craft for children of all ages. “Family Story Time: Come in Out of the Cold!” - Stories and a craft for children of all ages. “Guess 'N' Go – Do You Know?!” - Guess the number of items in the jar. Closest guess wins! For grades 6 and below. The Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown , 1-3 p.m., Jan. 20 “It's Elementary, My Dear!” - Kids in grades 1-4, stop in for some stories. “Kids' Club: Winter Wonderland” - Stories and a craft for grades K-3. “Let it Snow!” - Enjoy winter stories and a snowman craft for children of all ages. Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult. Sign up. “Library Night with the Mahoning Valley Phantoms Hockey Team” - It's Library Night during the Mahoning Valley Phantoms' face-off against Traverse City on Jan. 21. Patrons who show their PLYMC library card at the ticket window will receive half off admission. “Pajamarama!” - Stories and a craft for children of all ages. Wear your pajamas & fuzzy slippers! “Ring the Bell with Ready-to-Read Raccoon” - Bring a stuffed toy friend or doll to this musical story time for ages 2-6. BABY BRILLIANT PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS “Baby Brilliant for Adults: Sharing Books with Babies and Toddlers” - Learn tips and techniques for sharing books with early talkers that will help your child develop critical pre-reading skills. ADULT PROGRAMS “Business & Investment Center: Small-Business Seminar” - Are you thinking about starting a business in the near future or further down the road? Learn important information for starting a successful business by attending this seminar. Members of SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business, will address important topics for those considering beginning a business. A librarian from Main Library's Information Services Department will discuss the Library's sources and services for business start-up and beyond. To join or find out more, contact the Development Office at 330-744-8636, ext. 118. “Friends of PLYMC General Membership Meeting ” - Following a general membership meeting in the Main Library meeting room, hear from Dr. Ray Beiersdorfer, YSU professor of geological and environmental sciences. Dr. Beiersdorfer will take you on a journey of the geology and human history of China as he presents “Mountains of China.” The professor has made three trips to the country, his most recent in December 2007, and has led YSU students on two of them. “Grant Center: Grant-Seeking Basics with a Special Introduction to the Foundation Center Website” - Learn how the Grant Center's resources can help you become a more effective grant-seeker! This introductory session geared at beginners provides instruction in foundation research. It also includes a tour of the Grant Center and a brief cyber-tour of the Foundation Center Website. Registration is required by calling 330-744-8636 and pressing "2" at the prompt. “Grant Center: Introduction to the Foundation Directory Online” - This hour-long session provides a hands-on introduction to the Foundation Center's Web subscription database, the Foundation Directory Online Professional. In this program, you will learn how to create customized searches to develop targeted lists of foundations that will match your organization's funding needs, as well as how to search for grants made by top funders. Registration is required by calling 330-744-8636 and pressing "2" at the prompt. “Lunch & Learn: ‘What's New at the Butler?' with Dr. Lou Zona ” - Dr. Louis A. Zona, director of The Butler Institute of American Art, will review recent happenings at the Youngstown museum and its branches, such as the museum's expansion; new painting, “Lincoln the Railsplitter,” by Norman Rockwell; and more. Co-sponsored by the YSU English Department and the Friends of the Library. “Women's Book Discussion Group” - Women who enjoy reading and would like to meet others with the same interest are invited to participate in this discussion group, which focuses on a different book every few weeks. The group meets twice monthly and is sponsored by The Friends of The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County. This month, the group will be reading “ Good Harbor” by Anita Diamant. The bookstore is located in the lower level of the Poland Library.
