| SPECIAL EVENT “Library's Family Fun Fest at the Wick Avenue Festival” - There's something for everyone on Main Library's lawn during the Library's Family Fun Fest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 12. Performers, crafts, games, prizes, surprises, tattoos and more! No reservations needed. We're also a stop in an activity sponsored by the Mahoning County Convention & Visitors Bureau, which offers a chance for more giveaways and prizes! The excitement is part of the new Wick Avenue Festival, taking place during Youngstown's Fabulous Weekend of Family Fun Festivals. Along with the Wick Avenue Festival on July 12, there will be the St. Nicholas Greek Festival July 10-13, the Downtown Wine and Jazz Festival on July 11, the Smoky Hollow 5K Run and Forté on the Fifty on July 12 and the YSU Summer Festival of the Arts July 12-13. CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS “‘Bee' Sure You Meet Outback Ray and His Amazing Animals” - Be ready to touch a variety of exotic creatures. Fun for the whole family! Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Boardman , 2 p.m., July 15 “Big, Bad Bugs: An All Out Pest Fest” - Stories, crafts, games and buggy treats – if you dare! Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. “Buggy About Crafts” - For children of all ages at Brownlee Woods and Campbell, ages 2-5 at the 10 a.m. program at Main Library, and school-age children at the 3 p.m. program at Main Library. “Build-a-Bug Contest” - Bee-utiful, bug-ly or cute as a bug in a rug, whatever you create, your bug won't bite! Winner gets a prize. Sign up. “Chocolate-Covered Ants and Other Delightful Snacks*” - Gross stories, disgusting games, a buggy craft and more for grades K-6. Sign up! (*No bugs will be harmed during this event!) “Christmas Countdown!” - Beat the heat with holiday stories and learn clay- and soap-making techniques for children of all ages. South , 10 a.m., July 8 “Native American Suitcase With the Mahoning Valley Historical Society” - Join a museum educator from the Mahoning Valley Historical Society for hands-on artifacts about the culture, social structure, life and lore of the Eastern Woodland Indians who occupied the Mahoning Valley several 100 years ago. See stone tools and hunting implements, beaded clothing, jewelry, utensils, food and games. Fun for the whole family! “Pioneer Suitcase With the Mahoning Valley Historical Society” - Join a museum educator from the Mahoning Valley Historical Society for hands-on artifacts and stories relating to the Mahoning Valley's early settlers who moved here between 1796 and 1830. See maps, household tools, kitchen “appliances,” lighting equipment and toys. Fun for the whole family! “Pajama Jam: Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite!” - Put on your PJs, bring out the whole family and listen to bedtime stories! “Pest Fest Contest” - Create a bug from any craft materials and bring it to the program. Listen to stories, play games and get a prize for your bug. For grades 6 and younger. “Poetry Pizzazz!” - Each week, turn in a poem that will be displayed in the library and get a prize. For children of all ages. “Reading Rocks With WKBN” - Enjoy stories for children of all ages, read by WKBN's Rich Morgan. “Spidery Tales” - Spider stories, a craft and a game for children of all ages. “Spin a Tale” - Listen to tales of Anansi the Spider and more! ADULT PROGRAMS “Business & Investment Center: Small-Business Seminar” - Are you thinking about starting a business in the near future or further down the road? Learn important information for starting a successful business by attending this seminar. Members of SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business, will address important topics for those considering beginning a business. A librarian from Main Library's Information Services department will discuss the Library's sources and services for business start-up and beyond. Registration is required; call 330-744-8636 and press “2” at the prompt. “Genealogy Research at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County: An Introduction” - Genealogy librarian Barb Smith will teach a hands-on introduction to genealogy research involving book and computer sources. The class is geared toward beginners, but all are welcome. Basic keyboarding and mouse skills are required. The program will be in the computer center on the second floor.
