Seventh Annual Children's Book Festival a Success

The 7th Annual Plant the Seed to Read Children's Book Festival, held at Mill Creek Park's Davis Center on April 27, was a success! The weather was beautiful and over 2,000 children and adults enjoyed the day, with Sid the Science Kid! from Western Reserve PBS, authors, guest readers, storytellers and more! This year's theme was, "Dig Into Reading!"

The Library had a special spot at the event. Library Director Heidi Daniel was a guest reader and delighted children with stories in the Davis Center Library. Children at the event received a giveaway from Library staff and had a chance to have their photo taken with Snow White!  .

Guest authors were Lindsay Bonilla, Lindsay Ward, Paul Orshoski. The event included a YSU Fossil Dig and Sediment Wash.

The event is presented by the Altrusa Club of Youngstown Ohio, Inc., in partnership with the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, Mill Creek MetroParks and Western Reserve PGS.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this event special, including our generous sponsors: Frank & Pearl E Gelbman Charitable Foundation; Huntington National Bank, Trustee; Altrusa International; Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens; Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County; Schwebel Family Foundation; Boardman Rotary Club; Rotary Club of Poland; Hill, Barth & King LLc; Carol Potter; and The Vindicator. ###

Book-fest-Louie-Free Louie B. Free, talk show host on Vindy Radio, entertained children as a guest reader at the event. Nena Perkins, Community Event Coordinator, also participated as a guest reader representing the Vindicator.
