Library Trustees See Concept for New Library

POLAND (September 21, 2006 / For immediate release) – The Board of Trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning got the first glimpse at architect's concepts for the new library to be built on the corner of East High Avenue and Early Road in Youngstown. Trustees met today at Poland Library.

The project to construct a new library on Youngstown 's East Side is in the very early stages. Architect Robert Mastriana of The 4M Company displayed proposed conceptual drawings of the new 8,900-square-foot library and explained their ideas to the Library Board. These initial concept drawings will be reviewed and modified with input before the final design is approved.

The architect's drawings focus on environmental consciousness, sustainability and energy efficiency. The new library concepts include a public meeting room; café; computer areas for adults, children and teens; a group study room; as well as areas for traditional library materials, such as books, magazines, newspapers, and ready reference. One unique feature to this conceptual design is an atrium outdoor terrace nestled in the library, but separated by moveable glass walls. This reading area would enable patrons to enjoy the beauty of the site.

The 4M Company has focused on energy-efficiency and environmental consciousness in previous Library projects. They were the architectural firm for Poland , Austintown and Springfield libraries.
