'Eat, Sleep, Read (eating and sleeping optional)' for Teens

2011 Summer Reading Club Is a Success Thanks to Generous Donors

This year's Summer Reading Club is not just a memory, but a successful summer of fun and learning which helped kids and teens throughout Mahoning County keep up with their reading skills over the summer break from school. The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County would like to thank its generous donors for their help in creating another successful summer of reading.

Some 4,267 children registered for this year’s program entitled, “One World, Many Stories.”  They read for 34,955 hours! Seventy-nine babies and toddlers, ages 0-2 years, participated, as well.

Almost 700 teens had fun with their program, “Eat, Sleep, Read (Eating and Sleeping Optional).”  Of these, 280completed 12 hours of reading!

Each year, the Library’s Summer Reading Club attracts thousands of children from throughout Mahoning County. And even though they may not be aware of it, their participation in the Library’s Summer Reading Club will help them keep up their reading skills over the summer break and return to school more prepared.
