Libraries Will Again Host Free Tax Preparation

TaxesFree Tax Preparation for Qualifying Individuals – The Library will again provide locations for free tax preparation and electronic filing for seniors and those (at any age) with low to moderate income. The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Programs offer free tax help for taxpayers who qualify. VITA and TCE provide services for low- to middle-income taxpayers. (Please note that taxpayers with significant self-employment income, capital gains or complex transactions should seek the counsel of a professional tax preparer.)

This partnership is another way in which the Library has a positive impact on the economic well-being of the community. The Library is a partner in the Mahoning Valley Economic Opportunity Coalition in this effort.

All sites are staffed by volunteers who have been trained and certified by the IRS. Volunteers will also provide counseling on eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

2012 Earned Income and Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) must each be less than:
· $45,060 ($50,270 married filing jointly) with three (3) or more qualifying children
· $41,952 ($47,162 married filing jointly) with two (2) qualifying children
· $36,920 ($42,130 married filing jointly) with one (1) qualifying child
