We're offering three websites this month to assist with matters involving intellectual property.

•  The first website, KeepYourCopyrights.org, was developed by the Kernochan Center for Law, Media and the Arts and the Program on Law & Technology at Columbia Law School. Let's allow the website to describe its mission…. “this site is designed to help creators hold on to their copyrights, to license their rights on author-friendly terms, and in general to encourage creators to take a more active role in managing the life of their creative work.” KeepYourCopyrights.org includes a link that deals with copyright and a second link that focuses on contracts. The second link directs one to other web connections that provide sample contracts.

•  The website of the Library of Congress's Copyright Office is the second featured website of the month. It's mission is the protection of the works of creators. The website has been newly engineered and includes online registration, news from the office, and detailed information on the process of obtaining a copyright.

•  November's third website is the inclusive website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Here the visitor can engage in tutorials on the patent and trademark process, as well beginning the process of obtaining them. Many other features are available that assist in the understanding of both patents and trademarks, including online chats whose subjects are archived.

Be sure to click on BIC Source of the Month and Check it Out for additional selections on copyright and trademark information.
