Clerical Training Assistant

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is looking for a full time Clerical Training Assistant in administration.  This position involves assisting the Clerical Trainer and TCC Supervisor in providing circulation training and mentorship for all clerical staff. This position will also participate in technology and customer service initiatives as they relate to public service and the day to day performance of library operations. Hours of work will generally be M-F 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (37.5 hour work week). However, availability for extended or non-traditional hours as needed to perform job duties is required. Travel to other branches throughout Mahoning County is required occasionally.

Job duties: Provides instruction and training to new clerical employees; participates as a member of the training team for all new employees; prepares, updates, and maintains procedures and instructions for circulation functions, equipment and software; Provides recommendations for improvements on the effectiveness of policies and procedures; participates in technology and digital services initiatives; assists Clerical Trainer and TCC Supervisor with Search Ohio and Sierra functions and procedures.

Requirements: Associate’s degree, or other similar education experience beyond High School diploma, and three or more years of directly related experience.  Good problem solving and organizational skills, a positive attitude, and an excellent customer service philosophy. Proficient with technology, computers, and databases, including thorough knowledge of the library’s operating system. Ability to work well in absence of supervision, establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group, and an aptitude for teaching others. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience working in library setting with a strong knowledge of library procedures and protocol preferred. Previous working experience in a trainer, manager, or supervisor capacity is a plus.

The starting salary range for this position is $28,800 per year with an excellent fringe benefit package which includes pension plan with the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.
