The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (OH) is seeking a full-time Maintenance employee to maintain buildings and grounds by providing housekeeping, grounds keeping, and preventive and routine maintenance on library facilities within Mahoning County.
Responsibilities: (1) Maintain all library branches of PLYMC inside and out to ensure all mechanical systems are in good working order and facilities are clean, disinfected, and in good appearance. Examples include carpet cleaning, wax floors, spray buff tile floors, general cleaning, change lights and ballast, interior and exterior painting. Performs general grounds keeping and cleaning duties on a regular basis for the benefit of the public and staff. Examples include snow plowing, cutting the grass, weeding, removing trash, disinfecting surfaces, safely removing biohazards, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, etc. (2) Safely maintains and operates maintenance equipment and library vehicles during the normal course of the workday. This includes safely and properly operating high lifts, ladders, and other equipment as well as the safe and proper use and disposal of toxic chemicals while keeping the staff and public safe from hazards. (3) Sorts, loads and delivers books and materials as well as items such as furniture, signs, and displays using Library vehicles and delivery system. Safely operates library vehicles and travels between destinations. (4) Set up meeting rooms, tents, and programs and events that take place at various locations for many different occasions such as admin meetings, programs, fundraisers, outreaches, etc. (5) Consults with supervisor on best practices and issues that relate to facilities and grounds management.
Requirements: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with some prior custodial/building maintenance work experience or equivalent educational background in a vocational skills program such as those offered at a trade school or workshop electives in high school. Must have knowledge of grounds and building maintenance and cleaning methods. General knowledge of all trades and some carpentry and mechanical skills are helpful. A current Ohio Driver’s License and clean driving record is required. Must be able to lift 100 lbs. and to climb and work safely at heights. Have ability to operate a computer keyboard and have familiarity with Windows and Windows-based software.
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, split shifts. Shifts are primarily 3 p.m.– 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Must willing to work Saturdays.
Compensation: The pay rate for this position starts at $12.04 per hour with an excellent fringe benefit package including a pension plan with the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).
