Part-Time Librarian Youth Services

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (OH) seeks a Part-time Librarian in Youth Services. The ideal candidate should have an MLIS degree, experience working with youth of all ages, and a commitment to service excellence.

Responsibilities. (1) Assists library customers of all ages in the use of library resources, including library technology. Advises customers in selecting and locating materials in all formats to meet their informational, educational and recreational needs. (2) Promotes reading and life-long learning by planning and conducting programs and presentations both in the library and off-site. (3) Keeps library collections current and relevant by selecting, organizing, displaying and weeding material. (4) Provides easily accessible library collections in a safe, clean, organized, and appropriate environment in a friendly, courteous manner.

Qualifications. Master’s Degree in Library Science is required. Background in early childhood development and working with babies and toddlers is also required. Must have an above average ability to work with web-based catalogs and reference resources. Must be outgoing and courteous with a strong customer service philosophy. Knowledge of books, authors, movies and music is required.

Work Schedule. Generally 24 hours per week with the option to work additional hours possible. Must be willing to work days, evenings, and Saturdays. Must be willing to work at the various locations throughout our Mahoning County system.

Compensation. The pay rate for this position starts at $18.98 per hour with an excellent fringe benefit package.
