First Chapters is designed for beginning chapter book readers. Call 330-259-3394 to listen to one of our librarians read the beginning of a chapter book. You can then borrow the book from Overdrive or Curbside Pickup to finish reading it. There will be a new book every Monday throughout Summer Discovery.
The First Chapters Book for this week is Two Peas in a Pod by Sarah Mlynowski. This humorous and adventurous chapter book is number 11 in the Whatever After book series. The first chapter is titled Too Bad, So Sad. Abby wants nothing more than to be chosen as student leader for her school carnival at Smithville Elementary. Abby goes above and beyond to make sure she stands out above her competition. The announcement is made, “This year’s leader of the school carnival is…” Will Abby be chosen?
The Take and Make craft is a colorful Princess Bed. You can request this craft through Curbside Pickup by calling 330-259-3399.

Take and Make Craft: Princess Bed
Call 330-259-3399 to request a Take and Make craft through curbside pickup.
Supplies included in the Take and Make Craft kit: White, brown and other colors of construction paper
Supplies you need from home: Glue, pencil, scissors, washi tape or ribbon (optional)
Step 1: Draw a rectangle toward the bottom of your paper.
Step 2: Attach your colorful ribbons, washi tape, or colorful paper horizontally until you fill the box.
Step 3: Attach your brown paper pieces to either side making sure to cover the edges. These will be the legs of the bed.
Step 4: Decorate your bed. You can also add your name at the top of the paper.
Step 5: Make and cut out a picture of you in your pajamas. Attach it to the top of the bed. If you want, you can cut out a real photo of yourself to use.
Step 6: Don’t forget to draw a small pea at the bottom of the bed.
