This November 14th marks the start of Diwali! Diwali is a 5-day Indian holiday known as the Festival of Lights. The word comes from Sanskrit dīpāwali meaning “row of lights.” This celebration is significant for Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Newar Buddhists. Each religion has different teachings surrounding the holiday, but for all it is a time to celebrate the light of life and the end of harvest. Many people celebrate by decorating their homes, lighting diya (oil lamps), setting off fireworks, and attending religious services.
Another way to celebrate is by sharing sweets and exchanging Diwali greeting cards. We created an easy to make, light-up Diwali card. Gather your supplies and try it yourself! Check out our How-To video below.
