Looking to take up a new hobby, or a new source of crafting inspiration?  Give some of these online sources and databases a try. You might find a new passion!

Discover a Hobby

This website provides information to learn about and get started with over 220 hobbies, across a variety of categories. Entries include photos and videos, a background of the craft/hobby, and a wealth of historical information.

Hobbies and Crafts Reference Center

This database provides access to 1000’s of articles on various crafts and hobbies, from a variety of sources.  You will need a library card to access.

Universal Class

Universal Class is another resource that you will have to sign in using your PLYMC library card, but once you do, you’ll have access to free, instructor-led courses on a variety of subjects, including arts and crafts.

Kollabora

This website requires registration with an email address, but once you are registered, you can share your DIY efforts with a community of makers, and see what others have been making as well.  Kollabora is also a great source of inspiration, and can connect you with patterns and instructions for various crafts.

Ravelry

Like Kollabora, this is an online community, but it’s specifically made for knitters and crocheters.  Ravelry requires registration with an email, but then provides a wealth of features for fiber fans.  Track your projects, keep track of your yarn and pattern stashes, find and download new patterns, and engage with fellow knitters and crocheters in their groups and forums.
