Aimee Fifarek Completes Requirements for Library Executive Director Position

YOUNGSTOWN (October 24, 2017/For Immediate Release) – It’s official! Aimee Fifarek of Phoenix, AZ, the candidate selected as the new Executive Director by the Board of Trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC), has successfully completed the requirements of the offer of employment which was extended to her on October 17. She will become the new PLYMC Executive Director and is expected to be in place no later than Jan. 8, 2018.

The offer was contingent on the candidate’s acceptance within 24 hours and successful passing a background check and drug screening. All conditions have been met.

At their October special meeting, Library Trustees moved to approve the appointment of Aimee Fifarek of Scottsdale, Arizona, as Executive Director of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County at the beginning annual salary of $110,000, with fringe benefits generally consistent with those provided to other full-time, administrative staff of PLYMC.  In addition, they approved a relocation allowance of up to $7,500.00 for receipted expenses associated with relocation to Mahoning County and fifteen days of vacation leave for 2018.

She is currently Deputy Director of Information Technology and Digital Initiatives at Phoenix Public Library in Arizona.  She grew up in Marinette, WI, on the shores of Lake Michigan. Ms. Fifarek attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, earning a Master’s Degree in English and in Library and Information Science.  Aimee’s 20-year library career has taken her from Milwaukee to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and now to Scottsdale, AZ.  During this time, she has worked in both academic and public libraries and has developed expertise in all areas of Information Technology, materials selection, collection management, and administration.

Aimee has authored numerous professional articles.  She is the immediate Past President of the Library Information Technology Association (a division of the American Library Association), a graduate of the Research Institute for Public Libraries (RIPL), and has she received awards for Technological Innovation and Outstanding Library Service.

Communications, PR and Marketing Department Adds New Staff Member

Jeff Mamula began work on Mon., Oct. 23, in the role of Assistant Director of Communications, Public Relations and Marketing. Janet Loew, Communications-PR-Marketing Director, notes that Mamula will share responsibility for many aspects of Library communication, including public relations, marketing and media relations.

Mamula joins the Library team with 25 plus years of communications, marketing and adverting experience. He says: “I am thrilled to be part of the Library team. My entire career has been spent in the marketing communications industry and look forward to working with the team to further develop their already extensive services. I am fortunate to be joining such a respected library system that prides itself on top quality service.”
