Bertram de Souza Discusses Book in Library Interview

Longtime Mahoning Valley journalist Bertram de Souza will discuss his first book, “No Holds Barred,” a compilation of some of his most celebrated — and most controversial —columns in a moderated conversation with the Library which posted on Facebook at LibraryMahoningCounty, YouTube and the Library’s website the evening of Wednesday, October 21.

De Souza produced some 1,600 columns in his prominent career as a political writer during his 40 years at the Youngstown-based Vindicator. His book honors the Vindicator for 150 years of trailblazing journalism. Joining Bertram in this interview are two other Youngstown Vindicator veterans, Cynthia Rickard, long-time writer and editor, and Robert McFerren, award-winning art director.

Local History Librarian Tim Seman conducted the pre-taped interview. If you’ve lived in this area for most of your life, you won’t want to miss this fascinating walk down memory lane. De Souza is known for his insight, wit and sometimes-biting political commentary. Listen in to gain more insight into the legendary Vindicator and one of it’s most noted icons, Bertram de Souza.
