Campbell Library Express Now Closed; Friends Activities Cancelled or Postponed

Health and Safety Alert from the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County 03-12-2020 [updated 03-16-2020]

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) has temporarily closed the Campbell Library Express. The branch, located in Campbell High School’s D’Amato Field House, closed as a result of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s announcement today that schools would close at the end of their day on Monday. The branch will remain closed at least until the school re-opens.

The Friends of the Library groups for PLYMC are cancelling all of their programming and events from now until at least April 3. The Friends are postponing their Mah-Jongg Tournament scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, at A La Cart Catering in Canfield.

The Friends Bookstore located in the Poland Library is now closed.

In a prior public notice, PLYMC announced that all Library programming and events will be cancelled through April 3.  The Library will continue to monitor the situation and will make decisions on resuming programming at that time. Currently, all libraries in the PLYMC system remain open.

Also, as previously announced, the “Plant the Seed to Read” Children’s Book Festival, scheduled for April 4, is cancelled. The Book Festival is a partnership between the Library, Altrusa International of Youngstown, Mill Creek MetroParks and Western Reserve PBS. This year would have been the Book Festival’s 14th annual event.

The Library continues to monitor instructions provided by Gov. DeWine, as well as information and guidelines from city, county and state health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in order to serve the needs of the community, while focusing on the safety and health of its customers.

Libraries are shared public spaces; for the health and safety of others, library patrons should avoid coming to the library if they are ill or have a fever in order to help stop the spread of germs and diseases.

The Library will continue to issue updates and alerts due to this ongoing community health situation. Follow the library’s social media feeds (Facebook: LibraryMahoningCounty) and website (LibraryVisit.org) for more information about this rapidly changing public health issue.
