Compass Experiment Meet-Ups at Libraries

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is pleased to be hosting The Compass Experiment news project community meet-ups in two of the system’s libraries.

Aimee Fifarek, Executive Director of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, noted, “The Library is pleased to host the Compass Experiment for community discussion. This project directly aligns with the Library’s mission connect people with high-quality information. Identifying sources of valid news is particularly important in now, when so much information from unknown sources is available via the Internet. With elections coming up in the near future, it is critical that the people in our community have access to expert journalism they need to be well-informed voters.

The Compass Experiment is bringing a new local news provider to the Mahoning Valley this fall. During the past few months, we’ve been meeting with local leaders and community members about the future of news in Mahoning County in light of the planned closure of the Vindicator.

Now, we’re hosting community meet-ups in partnership with the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County to hear from even more local residents. We aren’t experts in Youngstown: You are. What do you need from your local news? What stories aren’t getting told?

The following forums are open to all:

  • Thursday, August 22, 12-1:30 p.m. at the Main Library at 305 Wick Ave.
  • Friday, August 23, 12-1:30 p.m. at the Boardman Library at 7680 Glenwood Ave.

Food and drinks will be provided by the Compass Experiment at both sessions. Please RSVP for the session of your choice. For details and to register:
