Libraries Still Rock, but the Summer Discovery Program at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) is winding down. Time is running out for kids ages 3-11 years to complete the Summer Discovery Program by July 22 and register to qualify for an invitation-only breakfast event featuring Marc Brown, author/illustrator of the best-selling Arthur books. The breakfast is sponsored by Sweeney Chevy Buick GMC.

How do kids ages 3-11 years qualify for the breakfast? Just follow these easy steps:

1 – JULY 22 DEADLINE: Complete the required reading or activities by July 22

2 – COMPLETE AND VERIFY LOG BY JULY 21 IN LIBRARIES OR JULY 22 ONLINE: Record your progress either online or on pre-printed Summer Discovery Logs which you can bring into any PLYMC library before the July 22 deadline.

A – ONLINE: You can record your progress in the online database by clicking this link: https://www.libraryvisit.org/our-happenings/summer-discovery/ Please note that the online database will close at midnight on Sun., July 22

B – WALK-INS: Participants who are bringing paper forms to a PLYMC library should note that to meet the deadline, they must return those logs to a PLYMC library within their open hours on Saturday, July 21, as libraries are not open on Sun., July 22. 3 – YOU MUST PHONE IN YOUR RESERVATION BY 5 PM, MON., JULY 23. Upon completion and verification, either online or inside the library, participants will receive an invitation to the breakfast with instructions. Reservations must be made to ensure enough food and seating at the July 27 event, therefore, participants MUST phone in their reservation to 330-744-8636, ext. 50063. Reservations will be taken by phone up to 5 p.m., July 23.

“Thousands of kids across Mahoning County have participated in this year’s Summer Discovery program,” said Josephine Nolfi, Director of Programming and Youth Services. “The Library’s Summer Discovery Program is an important component in helping kids keep up their reading skills and avoid ‘summer slide,’ an erosion of reading skills during the months school is not in session.”
