Library Continues to Evaluate; Will Remain Open at Least Through Tuesday, March 17

Health and Safety Alert from the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County  –  March 13, 2020 at 5 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN – The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) continues to exercise caution due to concerns about the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19. “As we continue to monitor the situation, we acknowledge that other libraries in the state are closing. At this time, we are choosing to keep the library system open at least until end of business Tuesday, March 17, to facilitate school wind-down and the primary election, unless given explicit guidance from the Governor or state, county or local public health authorities,” said Aimee Fifarek, Library Executive Director.

She further noted that, “We continue to evaluate the situation and will update staff and the community if other decisions are made about keeping libraries open.”

Current schedules of open library hours will remain in effect, with the exception of the Campbell Library Express, which has closed and will remain closed at least until the Campbell Schools re-open.

Three Mahoning County libraries are polling places: Boardman, East and Newport branches. Voting is scheduled to take place at those locations on Election Day, Tuesday, March 17.
