Main Library Preparing to Enter the Next Phase of the Renovation Project

The Main Library, located at 305 Wick Ave., is preparing to move into Phase 3 of renovations. On January 3, 2022, the 2nd phase of the construction project on the Main Library will open to the public. The entire 2nd floor will open, including the new computer lab, study rooms, meeting rooms, and Genealogy and Local History. During the continuing construction project, all public services will take place on the 2nd floor and in the recently opened Family Engagement Area.

Renovations on the Main Library began in August of 2020 and are expected to be completed in early 2022.  The cost of the design and construction for the project is projected to be $26.1 million. The cost was factored into the Library’s strategic planning for several decades and funds were set aside specifically for this project, so the Library could operate debt-free. AMHigley Company of Cleveland and partners Dawn Incorporated of Warren, Construction Manager at Risk, issued 31 separate bid packages for the project and more than 90 contractors submitted bids.

To accommodate the work necessary to move the project from Phase 2 to Phase 3, Main Library will temporarily close to the public from November 22, 2021, through the end of the year to allow staff the time to move materials from the Grand Reading Room and to prepare the 2nd floor for public service. During this temporary closure, curbside drop-off at Main Library will not be available.
