Michael Kusalaba Branch Preview
Library to Offer a Preview of Designs for the New Michael Kusalaba Branch June 9
AUSTINTOWN (June 1, 2016 / For Immediate Release) – The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will give the public a preview of designs for the new Michael Kusalaba Branch Library, which will take the place of the current West Library at 2815 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, from 5-6 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, in the meeting room of the Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Rd.
Architect Ronald Faniro will present interior and exterior designs, as well as a floor plan, for the new proposed library. A brief question and answer period will take place after the presentation. Comments on the proposed design can be submitted to the Library through the website, libraryvisit.org/contact, through the end of June.
The current West Library closed April 30 in preparation for the construction of the new Michael Kusalaba Branch on that same site.
The branch is part of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system and is being named in honor of a donation from the Michael Kusalaba Fund of the Youngstown Foundation of $1.68 million dollars for construction of the new library, which is estimated at $2.9 million. Library officials hope to open the new branch sometime in 2017.
Over the summer, Library staff will clean out the building and saved items will be retained by the Library. The Library and Friends of the Library will hold public sale of surplus items and books and a fundraising event is planned.
Patrons who have library materials checked out from West can return them at any of the other 14 libraries in the PLYMC system, particularly the nearest libraries, Main Library and the Austintown branch, which are open six days a week.

So before we bring down the house, we will offer the public several more opportunities to come into that building – for a sale of surplus items and books and a fundraising party for those who want to give the West Library a nice send-off,” said Janet Loew, Library Communications/Public Relations Director.
