New Canfield Library is Now Open
CANFIELD (January 22, 2016) – The new Canfield Library, 43 W. Main St., opened to the public on Monday, January 25, at 9 a.m. for a soft opening. A formal grand opening and dedication is scheduled for the following Saturday, January 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with refreshments and activities for all ages.
“We’re very happy that our customers who have waited so long for their new library will finally be able to come inside and use all of the wonderful resources the Canfield Library has to offer,” said Library Executive Director, Heidi M. Daniel.
The library branch closed at the end of the day on Saturday, September 20, 2015, to construct this new facility. In the interim, the Library partnered with MilL Creek MetroParks to set up a small temporary location in the MetroParks Farm.
Plans have been in the works for nearly a decade for this new Canfield Library and the Library Board of Trustees has been saving money for this $5.3 million project. The Library operates debt-free and pays for projects without bond issues or loans, which are costly. Special thanks to the community for private donations of over $600,000 which help offset the cost of constructing this new library branch.
Canfield Library will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sunday hours begin in February and will be 1-5 p.m. through May 22.
The old Canfield Library, built in 1969, is 5,104 square feet. The new branch will be 18,514 square feet. Construction is expected to take one year to a year and a half.
