New President, Vice President for Library Board
YOUNGSTOWN (July 19, 2021 / For Immediate Release) – Carole Weimer and Thomas Frost have been chosen as the new President and Vice President respectively for the Board of Trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC).
Carole Weimer was Board Vice President and was elected to the President’s seat following the death of long-time Board President Dr. David Ritchie, who passed away on July 9. Thomas Frost was elected to fill the Vice President’s vacant seat. Mrs. Weimer and Mr. Frost will fill the unexpired officer terms until January 2022, at which time an election will take place at the Board’s Annual Meeting.
Mrs. Weimer, who joined the Board in 2015 and was elected Vice President in 2018, said, “We will all miss Dr. Ritchie and the wonderful leadership that he provided to this organization. So it is with a heavy heart that I step into this role. As incoming Board President, I am committed to helping the Library continue the good work that it does in this community.”
Mr. Frost, who joined the board in 2011, noted, “It’s an honor to serve on this Library Board. Taking on a leadership role following a person like Dr. Ritchie, and being elevated due to his death, is very humbling and somber. However, we will carry on. We appreciate that the Library Director and staff make it so easy for us to be Board members. The Board has excellent leadership in Carole Weimer. I look forward to serving the community.”
Library Director and CEO Aimee Fifarek noted, “It is difficult to imagine the Library or our community without Dr. Ritchie. He guided our Board for the last 20 years and has been a mentor to me and to many of our Trustees during that time. Both Carole and Tom have served the Board well during their tenure and I believe they are worthy successors to Dr. Ritchie’s legacy. The new President and Vice President have demonstrated their commitment to Mahoning County’s libraries and the communities they serve.”
Dr. Ritchie was first appointed to the Library Board on January 23, 1997, and voted Board President effective October 1, 2002, a position he held until his recent passing.
