Summer Discovery successful thanks to generous donors

2016 Summer Discovery Program a Success Thanks to Generous Donors

YOUNGSTOWN – The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County would like to thank its generous donors for their help in creating another well-attended summer of reading with this year’s Summer Discovery Program. The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley’s Kennedy Family Fund, which has supported Summer Reading for many years, was again a generous supporter of this year’s program with a $5,000 grant.

Babies, toddlers, preschoolers and children participated in this year’s program entitled, “Every Hero Has a Story.” Teens had fun with their program, “Unmask!” And the adult program was, “Escape the Ordinary.”

Each year, the Library’s Summer Discover attracts thousands of children and teens from throughout Mahoning County. And even though they may not be aware of it, their participation in the Library’s Summer Discovery will help them keep up their reading skills over the summer break and return to school more prepared.

Donors include: The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley’s Kennedy Family Fund; Dairy Queen, Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the Martha Muransky Children’s Literacy Fund, the Ruth Bowers Fund for Youth Programs and Services, OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology, Friends of PLYMC, Friends of the Austintown and Boardman and Poland libraries, Library Staff, Rotary Clubs of Mahoning County, Sam’s Club, Skate Zone, Walmart, Camelot Lanes, and Chuck E. Cheese.

The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is operated exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes which effectively assist and promote the well-being of the residents of Mahoning and Trumbull Counties. Information about the Foundation can be found at
