Trustees Name Architect for Kusalaba Branch on West Side
YOUNGSTOWN (January 28, 2016) – The Board of Trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County accepted the recommendation of the Building and Sites Committee and voted to hire Ronald Cornell Faniro Architects as the architectural firm for the new Michael Kusalaba Branch which will be constructed at 2815 Mahoning Avenue, the current site of the West Library. The Board met in regular session at Newport Library tonight.
Trustees also agreed to authorize the Fiscal Officer to place and open bids for the demolition and site preparation of the existing West Library branch and for the Building and Sites committee to award the contract.
Trustees accepted the Nominating Committee’s slate of officers for 2016 and voted for: President, Dr. David Ritchie; Vice President Delores Crawford; Fiscal Officer Susan Merriman; Deputy Fiscal Officer/Secretary Tina McBane, and Library Executive Director Heidi M. Daniel.
The Board voted to renew three-year terms of members whose seats were expiring: Richard Atkinson, Judge Mary DeGenaro, Carole Weimer, John Yerian.
Ms. Daniel reported to Trustees on the progress made in all areas of the Strategic Plan, My Library 2020. The Board expressed being impressed by the progress shown in the report and commended all Library staff for contributions to strategic plan projects.
The Board approved a motion to authorize the Building and Sites Committee to review qualifications-based architect or consultant proposals for the site selection phase and facility programming schematic phase for a new branch to replace the existing Brownlee Woods, Campbell and Struthers branch libraries and to award the contract. A consolidation of these branches has been a part of three strategic plans since 2004.
Trustees also approved a general fund budget of $17,334,631 for 2016, as well as a building and repair fund budget of $3,716,300, and a technology fund budget of $456,690.
