JOHN H. CLARKE FUND
BOOKS
This fund was established in 1964 by John H. Clarke, a distinguished Youngstown citizen who became a
Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Justice Clarke was a-leading advocate of world
peace; he was one of the organizers of this library, its second president and upon his death became its
chief benefactor. Income from this fund is devoted exclusively toward the purchase of books.
RUTH BOWERS FUND
YOUTH PROGRAMMING AND SERVICES
Ruth Bowers was a teacher in the Youngstown City School District for 29 years. Income and principal from the fund may be used by the library system for youth programming, services and Summer Reading.
ELIZABETH LOWMILLER BARNHILL FUND
SERVICES FOR CHILDREN
The Library Board of Trustees established the Elizabeth Lowmiller Barnhill Trust Fund in 1984. Interest proceeds from investments of the principal of this fund are to be used for the restricted purchase of children’s books.
AROL A. BACON LITERARY SOCIETY AUTHOR FUND
AUTHOR EVENTS
Carol A. Bacon Literary Society Author Fund has been created in the PLYMC Foundation. The fund was created in Mrs. Bacon’s memory by her husband, James Bacon, and her family.
MARTHA MURANSKY CHILDREN’S LITERACY FUND
SERVICES FOR CHILDREN
The Martha Muransky Children’s Literacy Fund is named in honor of Martha Muransky (1923 – 2013). The fund was created in memory of Mrs. Muransky and is used to support children’s reading and literacy programs.
EDWARD W. POWERS TEEN PROGRAM FUND
TEEN PROGRAMMING & SERVICES
The Powers Family notes that this fund is special because it combines two things that were very important to Edward W. Powers and his wife, Alice: supporting youth and supporting their educational endeavors.
MYRON S. ROH FUND
BOOKS
This fund was established through a bequest from Myron S. Roh in 2003. Mr. Roh served as a member of the Library’s Board of Trustees for 22 years, from 1971 to 1993. Income from this fund’s investments is to be used for the purchase of new books for the library system.
THE REBECCA SHOWMAN AUTHOR & SPECIAL EVENT FUND
This fund was established to support author & special events for the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County.
FLORENCE TAYLOR SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The goal of the fund is to support economic growth in Mahoning County by giving library staff at all levels the opportunity to earn certification and education credentials to progress into the leadership ranks of the Library. Preference will be given to people of color and first generation college students who have worked at least one year at PLYMC.
