Virtual Programming Events Calendar

We want you to know that the Library is here for you! Even when our libraries were closed due to COVID-19 spread, the Library continued to provide information and services and present virtual programs. Unfortunately, our in-library programming has been suspended until further notice due to the pandemic.

Check out the ways our librarians provide you with programs of interest on our virtual platforms (see links below).

We are planning the following activities on Facebook (LibraryMahoningCounty) and other social media platforms (click on links to social media below).

Live ChatDaily

Daily Book Chats – Live on Facebook – Join us on Mon., Wed., and Fri., at 10 a.m., and noon on Tuesday and Thursday as your friendly neighborhood staff members from the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County talk books. Do you need a recommendation for your next great read?

Weekly Programs

Weekly programs will be in the mix. Some are still being planned.

ASL Club – Virtual ASL Club is for all skill levels and is a place where one can come and learn not only new signs, but other aspects of this beautiful language and culture. Come and learn with us via Zoom! Each session typically lasts an hour. Registration email is required. REGISTER NOW »

Book Banter Chat -Every Wednesday at 4 PM on Facebook, two librarians will discuss and deconstruct a work of Young Adult fiction, digging into character development, plot points, point of view, and more, and give you a thumbs up or down.

“Community Cooking” – Join librarians each week as they tackle family favorite recipes.  Follow us @LibraryMahoningCounty on Facebook and Instagram for more information.

Fiber Arts Live! – Join our crafty librarians every other Wednesday at 11 AM on Facebook as they chat about everything related to Fiber Arts crafts.

Instagram Weekly Photo Challenge – Join our weekly photo challenges on Instagram, and use the hashtags #PLYMCweekly and #PLYMCanywhere to join the community challenges. Posted every Sunday on Instagram.

Monday Bilingual Storytime Live! – Join some of your librarians on Facebook every Monday at 7 PM as they share songs, stories, crafts and more each week.  Stories will be shared in English and Spanish.

Rainbow Reads: Virtual Teen Book Club – Each month we will read and meet to discuss a YA book featuring LGBTQ+ characters. Email Ms. Sarah at sblott@libraryvisit.org for the Zoom link. For teens in grade 7-12 regardless of gender identity or orientation.

Saturday Night Stories  – Listen if you dare! Join us every Saturday at 8:30 PM on Facebook as PLYMC Librarians read selections from some of the scariest books ever written. Please note: Saturday Night Scares are scary stories for adults, and brave teens.  Stories contain mature themes, and may not be suitable for a younger audience. 

Tech Time Live Chat – Join us every Friday on Facebook at 4 PM for Tech Time Live Chat. Ms. Carla from PLYMC will offer tech tips and helpful resources for your gadgets and devices.

Teen Reads Live Video – Tuesdays at 4 PM, tune into Facebook to see teens from Project Lit Youngstown and the Teen Advisory Board read chapters from a Young Adult book.

Thursday Storytime and ASL Live! – Join some of your librarians on Facebook every Thursday at 11 AM as they share songs, stories, crafts and more each week.  Stories will be shared in English and American Sign Language each week.

TAB meetingsTAB Virtual Meetings

The Library is closed, but you can still join our Teen Advisory Board (TAB) and come to a virtual meeting!  Help plan and support teen activities at the library. Volunteer your time, meet new people and have fun. To attend a virtual meeting, email our TAB coordinator, Amy at aburkard@libraryvisit.org for information on how to join the fun.  For teens in grades 7-12.

Virtual TAB meetings are on Facebook on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 PM


StoryTrail square adStory Trails at the Library!

We invite you to take a walk and read a book on the story boards outside the Boardman, East, Michael Kusalaba, or Poland branches of the library.  Each branch has a different story, so you can visit them all.

These story trails are a great way for children (and their adults!) to enjoy the outdoors and reading at the same time. LEARN MORE


First Chapter

“First Chapter” calls provide an opportunity for tweens to hear the first chapter of a book by calling 330-259-3394. Patrons can finish reading the book through our Hoopla app or borrow ​through Curbside Pickup, where and a craft or STEAM activity related to the book can also be included.  Crafts can be requested by calling the Library at 330-259-3399.

StorylineStoryline

Hear a Story at 330-259-3393. Call and listen to one of our librarians read your children a story each week.

The story changes every Friday at noon., so feel free to email programmingdepartment@libraryvisit.org if you have reading suggestions.
