YOUNGSTOWN (July 9, 2026/For Immediate Release)
On July 11th 2026, The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) will host New York Times best selling author John Scalzi.
Scalzi’s novel Redshirts won the 2013 Hugo Award for Best Novel, and his acclaimed Old Man’s War series has also received multiple Hugo Award nominations. Additional works include The Android’s Dream, Agent to the Stars, and Lock In. In addition to the Hugo, John is also the recipient of numerous awards, including the Locus, Seiun, the Dragon, and the Governor's Award for the Arts in Ohio.

Drawing on his experience as a science fiction author, Scalzi will discuss sci-fi in the modern era, his writing process, and living with his head in the stars. The free event will celebrate PLYMC’s annual Summer Discovery and America 250 with this renowned local author! Presented in partnership with Youngstown State University's Beeghly College of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education. Registration is required.
The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) has served the Mahoning Valley since 1880 when the Youngstown Library Association was officially created.
