Picturing the Past: A Photographic History of Mahoning County

As we continue to celebrate America 250 at The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC), we're excited to share a new initiative we've launched to help preserve our area’s history!

Picturing the Past: A Photographic History of Mahoning County gives our patrons the chance to share their historic photographs and contribute to PLYMC’s growing Digital Archive. Anyone aged 18 and older is welcome and encouraged to participate!

How to Contribute

There are two ways to share your photographs of Mahoning County:

In Person

Schedule an appointment to bring your photographs to Main Library. To schedule an appointment, fill out our online form or visit any PLYMC branch to fill out a physical form.

During your appointment, a member of our team will work with you to collect descriptive information about your historic photographs and then digitize them! Not only will you be contributing to the documentation of our county’s history, but you will also receive digital copies of your photographs.

Online

If your photos are already digitized, you're welcome to submit them online using our online form. We ask that you share a brief description of the photo(s) uploaded.

Submissions are being accepted through the end of 2026.
