Top 10 Submissions from our Black Out Poetry Contest!

In celebration of National Poetry Month in April, PLYMC ran our annual Black Out Poetry Contest for teens in grades 7-12! This is one of our favorite times of the year. Getting to work with several community partners to promote and share in this fun activity is extremely rewarding.

This year, we had a tremendous number of teens enter our contest! We had over 500 entries from all over the county, and so many beautiful pieces were created. The group of teens that submitted this year were so incredibly talented that it was difficult to narrow it down to our winners. So, highlighted below are the top 10 pieces of poetry that were voted on by our committee.

Thank you to everyone who participated in PLYMC’s annual Black Out Poetry Contest! This includes all the teens who decided to share their creative side, the teachers and school staff who supported this endeavor by sharing the contest with their students and inspiring them to give it a try, the community members that helped spread the word, and all of our librarians and library staff that created their Black Out Poetry stations at all of our libraries in Mahoning County!

We look forward to next year!
