PLYMC Proposal-Writing Workshop Highlights High – Demand for Nonprofit Support

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is helping strengthen the Mahoning Valley’s nonprofit sector through a proposal-writing workshop that gives local organizations practical tools to pursue grant funding, develop sound project budgets and better demonstrate measurable community impact.

The Nonprofit: Proposal Writing workshop will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Computer Center at Main Library. The workshop has reached capacity, reflecting strong interest among local organizations in resources that can help them build sustainable funding and expand their impact in the communities they serve. 

Participants will learn how funders evaluate proposals, how to describe community needs using local data and strengths-based language, and how to develop SMART goals that clearly distinguish program activities from measurable outcomes. The workshop also covers the development of honest, itemized project budgets, one-page letters of inquiry and common proposal mistakes that can prevent organizations from securing funding as well as learning how to follow up with funders and how to use Library databases to identify potential grant opportunities. 

These resources allow local organizations to conduct grant research and build their fundraising capacity using tools available through PLYMC.

By equipping local leaders to secure grant funding, we strengthen institutional financial resilience, expand educational access alongside the Mahoning Valley Non-Profit Capacity Building Coalition, and ensure essential missions have the sustainable resources needed to thrive,” said Stuart Gibbs, PLYMC Business and Non-profit Specialist.  
The program is part of PLYMC’s broader role in supporting and partnering with the institutions and organizations that contribute to the Valley’s success. By connecting nonprofit leaders with practical training and resources already available through the Library, PLYMC helps organizations pursue outside funding, strengthen financial planning and better measure the results of their work.
