The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host blood drives throughout August in a continuing partnership with the American Red Cross.
Mariel Sallee, PLYMC Board of Trustees Vice President said, "I find our partnership with the Red Cross to serve not as just a community outreach, but as an example of providing services that are critically important both locally and nationally. As many of us know, the national blood supply is low and we are very fortunate to have the opportunity and capacity to host these services in our public libraries."
"The American Red Cross is experiencing a severe blood shortage, with hospital demand outpacing our current supply,” said Christy Peters, regional communications director for the Red Cross Northern Ohio Region. “Community partners like the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County play a critical role in meeting the need for blood by hosting blood drives that bring in lifesaving donations. We could not meet patient needs without their support.”
